Die, Spam, Die!

This Comment Spam problem is bad enough, but when the spambots started attacking my memorial post for Joe, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Tonight I installed James Seng’s Bayesian Spam Filter to help me in my war against comment spam. It’s pretty keen, and I liken it to the Apple Mail spam filter since you “train” the filter to recognize spam. Pretty keen that it works with trackbacks as well. You’ll notice a “(Spam: x%)” appended to all comments now, which is just the plugin identifying the probablility that a comment is spam (or not).

I still need to finish identifying my comments as spam/no spam so this will work to its full potential. So far, so good.

  1. Courtney, try using MT-Blacklist.

Been using it for a while, and its pretty good. Easy to install. But if you have anything custom in your comments script (like avoiding duplicates, or prevent your own comments from being emailed to yourself), you’ll need to incorporate them into the MT-Blacklist script, as it takes over your comments script.
